Position Summary

The Clinical Application Analyst will provide technical oversight over assessment, validation implementation, and management of business user end of all digital pathology applications. This person will perform scientific evaluation and data-driven inferences in all internal projects while collaborating with Caris Pathologists, Application Development and Engineering teams as well as external projects with multiple vendors. With direction from VP, Digital Pathology, this role is responsible for supporting innovative solutions enabling a highly efficient, automated pathology lab workflow leveraging whole-slide images. This person will heavily rely on data analytics and workflow assessments to identify trends, highlight gaps and potential improvements in the current digital pathology systems and capabilities. In addition, the person will support timely and efficient fulfillment of all strategic data as well as Research (R&D, data science teams and external collaborators) data requirements in collaboration with digital pathology specialists.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing timelines and overall progress of ongoing validations and implementations of digital pathology solutions in collaboration with Technical Supervisor.

  • Analyze and optimize image analysis and digital pathology workflow to enhance efficiency, accuracy and quality of patient care.

  • Performs technical assessment of all external and internal AI/ML solutions and provide technical summary and input to VP, Digital Pathology.

  • Design and oversight of AI/ML test and validations for implementation in clinical workflow.

  • Generate reports related to system performance, utilization, and imaging workflow efficiency.

  • Manage day to day relationship with lab and infrastructure managers to maintain standardized metrics and imaging data integrity across the enterprise.

  • Serve as the escalation point for all technical and application related matters pertaining to digital pathology hardware and software usage by the end user.

  • Track, compile and document progress of all development and implementations projects, highlight roadblocks, communicate expectations to all external and internal stakeholders to ensure cross-functional synergy in projects.

  • Oversee and implement processes pertaining to proper transfer of new technology and workflows to the operations team including but not limited to defining SOPS, training, coaching, and operations support as and when needed.

  • Ensure timely communication and management of deliverables and project risks.

  • Responsible for technical integrity of project deliverables, including quality and compliance to applicable standards.

  • Foster a data-driven, evidence-based mindset and reporting format across all the stakeholders.


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with Digital Pathology in a CLIA, NYS, CAP, ISO regulated environment OR Master’s degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent work experience) with 5+ years of experience working in a Research or Clinical lab.

  • Demonstrated experience in brightfield/fluorescent image analysis, Python, commercial as well as opensource image analysis platforms such as Halo, Visiopharm, Qupath.

  • Proven laboratory and workflow management skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a biological or informatics discipline preferred.

  • Experience identifying opportunities for the use of artificial intelligence and predictive modeling solutions to business relevant applications.

  • Ability to translate data into meaningful value propositions to facilitate understanding and support business case.

  • Proven team management skills.

  • In-depth understanding of laboratory safety and quality control procedures and regulations.


Physical Demands

  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • May have exposure to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.

  • Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.

Other

  • This position requires periodic travel and some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

  • Job may require after-hours response to emergency issues.

  • Periodically scheduled on-call may require after-hours response for technical emergencies not explicitly related to assigned job responsibilities.

  • At times may be required to work weekends/holidays.
