Position Summary

The Billing Department is at the center and forefront of our financial operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the appeals process within the billing department, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of denied or underpaid claims. This role requires a strong understanding of payer guidelines, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who can identify trends, a hands-on leader with strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of the revenue cycle, and a passion for process improvement and team success. This role ensures timely and accurate follow-up on outstanding claims while also supporting team development through audits, training, and regular one-on-one coaching.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide feedback, coaching, and performance updates.

  • Perform quality audits on team members’ work to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies.

  • Identify training needs and deliver targeted training sessions to improve team performance.

  • Support employee engagement and development through mentoring and career pathing.

  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations.

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for claim follow-up and appeals processes.

  • Monitor and manage appeal workflows, prioritizing high-impact or time-sensitive cases.

  • Monitor team productivity and ensure timely follow-up on outstanding claims to maximize reimbursement.

  • Review and resolve complex or escalated denials and appeals.

  • Analyze denial trends and collaborate with internal teams to implement corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance with payer-specific guidelines and regulatory requirements.

  • Analyze denial trends and root causes to identify opportunities for process improvement.

  • Prepare and present regular reports on appeal outcomes, denial rates, and team performance to leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience of Medical Billing

  • 1–2 years of supervisory or team lead experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare billing, payer guidelines, and denial management.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, Word, and Excel

Physical Demands

  • Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.

  • Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

  • Majority of work is performed in a desk/cubicle environment.

Training

  • All job specific, safety, and compliance training are assigned based on the job functions associated with this employee.

Other

  • Willingness to work shift work and overtime is required.

  • Job may require occasional weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.
