Position Summary
Caris Life Sciences is seeking a creative, driven, and goal-oriented Data Scientist – Computer Vision to join our Computational Pathology team focused on histopathology biomarkers. This role plays a critical part in developing computer vision-based machine learning algorithms and analytic pipelines to support Caris’ translational research. The successful candidate will help shape our digital pathology AI capabilities by designing and maintaining machine learning infrastructure, collaborating across scientific teams, and contributing to high-impact publications.
Job Responsibilities
Design, implement, refine, and test algorithms and workflows to support strategic goals in image biomarker discovery, molecular profiling, and translational R&D.
Collaborate with pathologists and scientists to develop ground truth datasets and extract features from whole slide images (WSIs) and other modalities.
Build predictive models using structured and unstructured data, integrating imaging, molecular, and clinical data.
Process and analyze large, multi-source datasets across various data types.
Support ad hoc analyses and reporting requests with accurate and interpretable results.
Follow best practices in code development, documentation, and model delivery in a collaborative team environment.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Data Science, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or related field with exposure to biology.
1 – 3 years’ experience in data science.
Strong understanding of biology and pathology, with the ability to build statistical and machine learning solutions.
Proficient in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++); Python preferred.
Experience working in Linux environments and using version control tools such as Git.
Ability to work with both relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases.
Practical experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV).
Hands-on experience with tasks such as classification, segmentation, and object detection.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with medical imaging data, particularly histopathology images from whole slide scanners.
Background in cancer research or oncology-focused AI applications.
Prior work integrating imaging, molecular, and clinical datasets in multimodal modeling.
Experience with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and distributed training workflows.
Experience developing or fine-tuning foundation models for medical or pathology use.
Physical Demands
This position requires working at a computer for extended periods, with some time collaborating with subject matter experts and business leaders in person or via remote conferencing.
