Job Description
The role
We're looking for a motivated, experienced, and detail-oriented Deputy UK MLRO (DMLRO) who will support Checkout.com’s UK MLRO in all matters relating to the oversight and management of the UK Financial Crime Compliance function.
In this role, you'd work closely with the UK MLRO to lead on the day-to-day aspects of UK Financial Crime Compliance.
How you'll make an impact:
- Working with first and second-line analysts to manage and make decisions on escalations sent to the UK MLRO by other business divisions, including Enhanced Due Diligence approvals, merchant change requests, periodic reviews, and screening alerts.
- Presenting balanced, thorough, and well-justified recommendations on risk decisions to the UK MLRO and relevant oversight committees.
- Working with the UK MLRO to design, oversee, and implement improvements and changes to policies, procedures, and controls.
- Working with other internal stakeholders to ensure the UK Financial Crime Compliance function has access to reliable Management Information in order to assess risk and target resources.
- Supporting the UK MLRO to produce key departmental deliverables including business-wide risk assessments, MLRO reports, regulatory reports, and annual policy reviews.
- Designing and delivering targeted training and guidance to business units, including but not limited to scenario-based AML training and thematic reviews of onboarding decisions.
- Working with the UK MLRO to lead responses to the internal and external audit process and progress any action plans or remediation resulting from this.
- Horizon-scanning for regulatory or threat changes and presenting advice and conclusions to the UK MLRO and wider business.
- Managing the suspicious activity investigation and filing process, including conducting reviews of internal unusual activity requests and where necessary managing follow-up actions, including external filings to the National Crime Agency.
- Acting as the UK MLRO’s representative in the event of their absence or leave to ensure business continuity.
Qualifications
About you:
- Prior experience as a DMLRO or similarly senior second line of defence role within an FCA-regulated business. You have proven experience in compliance roles (5+ years)
- Experience working with Payments or E-Money Institutions (ideally fintech with a strong digital focus)
- Relevant practicing certifications such as ICA Diplomas or ACAMS certification, a degree in Law or a similar field (are desirable but not essential)
- Confident decision-maker with the ability to quickly assess and contextualize risks, assess mitigation, and provide a strong rationale for decisions made.
- You have strong interpersonal skills, enable strong stakeholder relationships
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work independently, take the initiative, and manage conflicting priorities.
