About the role

Checkout.com seeks an experienced Chief of Staff to support the Founder. This role focuses on driving execution and fostering collaboration across the organization. The ideal candidate has a proven track record as a chief of staff, Strategy manager, or operations manager.

Our office culture emphasizes driving company success with a low-ego, high-visibility approach. We are always on display internally and externally and must exemplify company values. Challenging, debating, and learning from disagreements are key to our decision-making process.

Reliability is crucial: speak the truth, be responsive, deliver on time, and handle tasks efficiently. There is room to make and learn from mistakes, but sensitive information must be treated with discretion and importance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor, providing insights and recommendations for strategic decisions. Challenge the status quo and commit to the correct direction.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage a team of associates to drive the company’s strategic vision and objectives. Oversee the preparation of key business updates, board materials, and investor presentations.
  • Align all strategic decisions with the company’s mission, operating principles, and long-term objectives. Defend any decisions made at the e-team or Founder level with data.
  • Facilitate key discussions with the Founder, e-team, and Checkout Leadership Team to ensure effective decision-making and outcomes. Keep meetings on track and push for timely decisions.
  • Foster strong relationships across the company. Connecting with employees from all departments and levels is critical.
  • Lead and manage select cross-functional special projects as requested by the Founder, including long-term strategy, new investment opportunities, organizational change, M&A, etc.
  • Shape the Founder’s communications and engagement with employees across various forums.
  • Monitor the progress of key projects, escalating updates, milestones, and blockers as needed.
  • Ensure smooth information flow across the department and draft communications for the department and broader business.
  • Ensure internal meetings are well-run and impactful with clear next steps.
  • Prepare the Founder for meetings, presentations, and external speaking engagements.
  • Manage the Founder’s internal communications and escalate topics quickly and effectively.

Qualifications

Desired Background and Core Competencies:

  • 8+ years of successful leadership experience, ideally as a chief of staff, business manager, or operations manager.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience driving complex projects to completion.
  • Experience leading and implementing change, horizon scanning, and organizational design.
  • Highly organized, proactive, efficient, and able to solve complex problems.
  • Critical thinker with a demonstrated ability to leverage data for decision-making.
  • Driven, able to switch contexts without losing focus, and skilled at translating complex information into executive-level updates.
