About the role

As a Principal Product Manager at dbt Labs, you will work cross-functionally to help guide products from ideation to launch by connecting the technical needs of users and the business needs of our company. Product managers help define the vision, goals, and strategy we pursue in concert with engineers, designers, sales, and partners that move the analytics development lifecycle forward. In this role, you will help to expand our product offerings to bring adjacent personas like the data analyst into seamlessly integrated workflows within dbt Cloud.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Study, research, and understand the expansion of the analytics development lifecycle, with specific focus on user requirements, market potential, and competitive landscape.
  • Define the vision, goals, and strategy behind product initiatives.
  • Execute cross-functionally, in a collaborative manner, to launch new products, improve existing features, test effectiveness of workflows, and facilitate marketing and sales motions.
  • Inspire teams of people to achieve great things together, while also tying the roadmap within a domain to broader product strategy goals and company goals.
  • Create tight feedback loops with our customers and prospects, bringing back synthesized requirements that our team builds in service of these stakeholders.

You are a good fit if you have:

  • 10+ years of experience in product management.
  • An understanding of the personas involved in the work to empower data practitioners to create and disseminate organizational knowledge.
  • Lived experience building software with successful market adoption, at scale.
  • The ability to work in a hands-on manner to lead, motivate, and organize teams developing software.
  • A desire to roll-up your sleeves, connect with customers, build quickly, and refine product offerings.
  • Built highly-scrutinized business plans and market analyses for executive stakeholder audiences.

You'll have an edge if you have:

  • Previous experience working with dbt for analytics engineering and/or building data tools and products for data analysts.
  • Worked with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Spark, Presto, etc).
  • Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team.
  • A comfort with discussing, explaining, and reasoning about the intersection of dbt DAG development and the broader analytics development lifecycle.

Who we are

At dbt Labs, we have developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics.

Specifically, we believe that:

  • Code-based transformations offer unmatched flexibility and transparency across various “multi-player” development to power everyone in the organization to collaborate on a common language
  • Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers
  • Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software
  • Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source

Our customers include JetBlue, Hubspot, Vodafone New Zealand, and Dunelm. dbt is synonymous with the practice of analytics engineering, defining an entire industry. We’re backed by top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter.
