Our flagship product, the dcbel Home Energy Station, is a small wall mounted device that gives everyone ownership over their energy supply by using solar power to charge their EV and home, unlocking their EV’s battery for backup power (V2H), and optimizing the energy flow between their solar panels, EVs, backup battery and the grid.

The opportunity

dcbel is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to work in our growing team. We are searching for a candidate with prior experience related to plastic injection molded designs for consumer products.

Main responsibilities

  • Using Solidworks, design mechanical components and systems for use in consumer products.
  • Design, prototype, validate, source, and manufacture various components.
  • Create component drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and change orders.
  • Manage design data via PLM/PDM systems.
  • Coordinate with component suppliers on tooling design, creation, and manufacturing logistics.
  • Assist transition to mass production internally and at contract manufacturers.
  • Collaborate with Product Design, Electronics, Firmware, Manufacturing, and Testing teams.
  • Ensure designed products meet required quality and safety standards and assist in UL certification of final product.

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or similar
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering
  • A high degree of proficiency in SolidWorks CAD modeling
  • Experience with design for plastic injection molding
  • Experience with plastics materials selection
  • Experience with design for consumer products
  • Experience with thermal simulation software and thermal mitigation techniques
  • Demonstrable experience with basic mechanical tools and mechanical assembly
  • An understanding of GD&T and ASME standards
  • An understanding of UL requirements
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Bilingual English and French written and spoken.
