This role is based at the San Diego headquarters and will report to the VP of Finance. This person will support the planning and reporting processes including annual budget, forecast, and long-range strategic planning, as well as weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting. This individual serves as the resident expert in Clinical Trial accrual from continuous enhancement to maintenance. Responsibilities include maintaining complex clinical trial cost calculations and models utilizing advanced Excel capabilities. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, comfortable working with large datasets, and experienced in the monthly close process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for financial reporting, preparing functional accruals including maintaining Clinical Trial accrual model for on-going and new clinical studies with monthly activities and generate estimate for accounting close.
- Own budgeting and forecasting, this includes quarterly forecast, annual budget, and long-range plan processes; include preparation of Balance Sheet, P&L, and Cash Flow.
- Provide comprehensive financial analyses and reports through advanced financial modeling and rigorous analytics.
- Lead monthly reporting processes while gathering required data and collaborating with business owners to determine and affirm assumptions and establish key benchmarks.
- Support monthly financial close activities to ensure accuracy; review journal entries for prepaids and fixed assets, review Biotherapeutics allocations calculation.
- Oversee cost management to ensure efficient use of resources. Review purchase requests to determine whether they are within budget and ensure expenses are coded correctly.
- Champion best practices and assess process improvement opportunities that drive productivity.
- Ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA or BS degree with 5+ years of relevant progressive FP&A or Accounting experience in the Biotech or pharmaceuticals with a clinical stage asset required.
- Obsession for data accuracy and detailed forecasting methodology. Innate ability to conceptualize new financial processes and implement them in a timely manner.
- Passion to drive financial literacy and understanding throughout the organization.
- Ability to take initiative and work autonomously.
- Works well with ambiguity and asks the right questions to get at the solution.
- Strong planning, organization and project management skills, along with excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills.
- Able to work with tight deadlines and ensure accuracy even when under pressure from competing priorities.
- Experience as a Finance business partner with an understanding of how managers use financial and operational information to make better business decisions.
- Experience with three Statements modeling IS, BS, CF .
Systems
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; incl, pivot tables, lookups, conditional formulas, macros.
- ERP systems – Netsuite, desired.
- Budgeting and Reporting systems; Adaptive, Tableau, desired.
Salary range: $125,000 -$150,000
