Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our Humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in Sunnyvale, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.

We are looking for a summer Mechanical Engineering intern to design, test, and implement key hardware components for our humanoid.

Responsibilities:

• Design parts in 3D CAD that satisfy load conditions, industrial design form factor, and durability requirements
• Support the mechanical engineering and systems integration teams with hands-on testing
• Create technical drawings adhering to GD&T standards to ensure accurate fits between tightly toleranced parts
• Build new actuators and test their performance against our internal designs and industry benchmarks
• Design and build test stands to fully characterize our actuators under all robot loading conditions

Requirements:

• Must submit a portfolio or website of relevant projects you have worked on and your role
• Pursuing a mechanical engineering, robotics, or equivalent undergraduate degree having completed at least two years of your degree by the start of the internship
• Any 3D CAD software experience
• Experience designing and building prototypes
• Ability to write and maintain clean documentation for your design process
• Passion for robotics

Bonus Qualifications:

• CATIA V6 Experience
• Basic understanding of controls, electrical engineering or embedded software
• Basic programming ability
• Familiar with electric motors and gearboxes
• Familiar with simulation and analysis, such as FEA or Matlab
