Your impact
As an AI Tutor specializing in Chemical Engineering, you will help advance the development of AI systems by reviewing and evaluating expert-labeled data related to thermodynamics, process systems, transport phenomena, and chemical reactions. Your domain expertise ensures that AI outputs reflect rigorous scientific and engineering principles.
This is a contract remote position with variable time commitments. The services to be provided by the Contractor under this agreement are supplementary and not integral to the Handshake’s primary business operations. The Contractor’s services are distinct and separate from the core business activities of Handshake.
Your role
Assess annotation quality and AI-generated outputs across chemical engineering topics.
Apply your technical background to ensure accuracy in areas like kinetics, reaction engineering, and materials processing.
Use proprietary tools to provide structured feedback and improve annotation workflows.
Collaborate with internal teams to evolve task guidelines and optimize tooling.
Stay current with changing task specifications and adapt to new content types.
Your experience
PhD (or ABD) in Chemical Engineering or a related field, completed within the last 10 years.
Strong written communication skills, especially in technical and analytical contexts.
Proficiency in evaluating problem-solving methodologies in process design and control.
Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
Interest in the intersection of AI, engineering, and innovation.
Bonus areas of expertise
Research experience with published work in a reputable journal.
Previous AI tutoring experience.
Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).
Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.
Additional Requirements
Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to quickly adapt to new skills and evolving requirements.
Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.
Reliable access to a smartphone.
Location & Work Expectations
Fully remote position.

Not hiring in Wyoming or Illinois at this time.
Compensation range
$55/hr - $100/hr
For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
