Your impact
As an AI Tutor in Materials Science, your insights will directly contribute to the training of AI in chemistry, physics, and engineering applications. You’ll help AI better understand structure-property relationships, materials design, and experimental methods.
This is a contract remote position with variable time commitments. The services to be provided by the Contractor under this agreement are supplementary and not integral to the Handshake’s primary business operations. The Contractor’s services are distinct and separate from the core business activities of Handshake.
Your role
Review AI-labeled content across materials science and engineering topics.
Apply technical knowledge to assess accuracy and completeness of data.
Support the development of AI tools used in research and applied science.
Provide structured annotations and feedback using proprietary platforms.
Collaborate with AI researchers to refine task specifications.
Your experience
PhD (or ABD) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Applied Physics.
Ability to synthesize and communicate complex technical topics.
Familiar with both computational and experimental methods.
Excited by the opportunity to bridge research and AI innovation.
Bonus areas of expertise
Research experience with published work in a reputable journal.
Previous AI tutoring experience.
Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).
Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.
Additional Requirements
Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to quickly adapt to new skills and evolving requirements.
Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.
Reliable access to a smartphone.
Location & Work Expectations
Fully remote position.

Not hiring in Wyoming or Illinois at this time.
Compensation range
$55/hr - $100/hr
For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
