As Mercury’s first in-house SEO & Content Distribution Strategist, you’ll play a critical role in driving the discoverability of our content, drawing new awareness for banking* that is truly engineered for startups. You will work cross-functionally across marketing, engineering, and data science to help guide keyword research, content development, and initiatives that will drive brand awareness and increase our search-led growth. You will also spearhead content distribution efforts, establishing new partnerships and helping place Mercury content in new channels to increase our reach.

Some things you’ll do:
- Research, develop, and implement successful SEO strategies across Mercury’s website and blog
- Conduct keyword research to guide content marketing efforts, as well as to help optimize copy for landing pages, paid marketing, and social media
- Collaborate closely with sales and marketing teams to align on goals around non-paid channels, content partnerships, and referral strategies
- Work closely with the social and content team to expand our organic reach on YouTube and alternative channels
- Build out a plan for off-page optimization initiatives, including link building
- Develop content distribution strategy to expand the reach of our content, such as by getting Mercury’s content/mentions placed in rich snippets, news apps (e.g., Apple News), etc.
- Research and analyze competitor strategies and performance to identify gaps or new opportunities for differentiation
- Monitor and analyze website performance, organic rankings, and traffic metrics to identify wins, pinpoint areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations for continued organic growth
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing stakeholders, including copywriting, brand, PR, product marketing, engineering, etc.
The right person can come from a variety of backgrounds, but we think that these qualities would help:
- You have 5–6 years of in-house or agency SEO and/or growth hacking experience
- You have a solid understanding of SEO principles, keyword research, on-page optimization, and link-building strategies — and are continuously keeping this knowledge fresh
- You have a strong proficiency in key SEO tools, including SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Google Search Console
- You are comfortable working with analytics platforms, and have a strong working knowledge of Google Analytics 4
- You have a strong ability to prioritize, work independently, and execute quickly
- You’re incredibly organized and are capable of balancing multiple projects at once
- You have a track record of translating SEO research and technical best practices into engaging content and copy that feels thoughtful and intentional

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
US employees in the New York City or San Francisco Bay area: $136,600 - $160,700 USD
US employees outside of the New York City or San Francisco Bay area: $122,900 - $144,600 USD
Canadian employees (any location): CAD 124,300 - 146,200
