A Better Built World
At Miter, we’re on a mission to help construction contractors build with confidence. If we’re successful, we’ll make it easier and faster to build critical physical infrastructure - roads, bridges, utilities, data centers, housing, etc.
For decades, construction and field services contractors have had to run their businesses on outdated software: clunky, on-premise systems created in the 1980s and 1990s.
That’s where Miter comes in. We’re using AI and embedded payments to rebuild the core HR, finance, and operations systems that underpin our physical economy. Using Miter, contractors like Marathon Electrical, W.J. O’Neil, and Truebeck Construction are building stronger teams, controlling job costs, and accelerating jobsite execution.
This idea is resonating. Since we launched in 2022, we’ve grown to thousands of customers and tens of millions in ARR, making us one of the fastest growing vertical software companies ever. To double-down on our momentum, we’ve raised $50M+ from top investors (Bessemer, Coatue, and Battery) who share our belief that we’re just getting started.
Hybrid Strategy:
We believe the magic of Miter comes from working side by side. For roles that are hybrid, our approach is—three to four days a week in the office—giving us the chance to connect, brainstorm, and build stronger relationships. If you live within a reasonable commute to either our New York City or San Francisco offices, we ask that you work in our hybrid approach.
About the Team & How We Work:
As Head of Data Operations, you’ll help scale some of Miter’s most important systems and processes that are key to powering our next phase of growth. This isn’t a typical BizOps or consulting role; you’ll manage a small payroll operations team and partner with Product and Engineering to design scalable processes that turn critical, highly operational functions into a competitive advantage, starting with our customer onboarding experience.
In the near term, your focus will include overseeing and redesigning key operational processes that directly impact implementations and customer experience. Over the next few months, as these processes are optimized, your role will likely evolve, giving you the opportunity to broaden your impact across Operations and Product.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape how Miter scales and delivers an exceptional experience for our customers.
What You’ll Do:
Own and scale critical payroll operations processes
Lead the transition of Miter’s Year-to-Date (YTD) upload process from an external vendor to an internal center of excellence.
Manage a hybrid team of payroll operations analysts and outsourced data contractors.
Define success metrics, set goals, and drive accountability around throughput, accuracy, and customer experience.
Partner closely with Product and Engineering to prioritize and deliver automation that makes the process faster and more self-serve for customers.
Build operational rigor and visibility
Design and run operational review cadences to ensure every implementation stays on track.
Define key metrics and build dashboards, reporting processes, and data sources to surface insights.
Identify process or accountability breakdowns and work cross-functionally to implement solutions.
Treat onboarding as a “product”
Serve as the bridge between customer-facing teams and Engineering, helping automate the most manual parts of our operations.
Own goals around customer time-to-value, delivering a mix of customer-facing product ships, internal process improvements, and automation to achieve them.
Partner with teams across Miter to identify bottlenecks across our onboarding experience, quantify tradeoffs, and implement solutions.
What You’ll Need:
6–8+ years of experience in BizOps, Strategy & Operations, or Consulting, ideally in a fast-growing SaaS or tech-enabled services company.
Proven track record building and improving complex operational processes end-to-end, including managing teams and vendors to measurable outcomes.
Experience leading and motivating teams and driving cross-functional initiatives.
Strong data skills, including working with large or messy datasets and identifying opportunities to automate work.
Systems and product-minded, with experience mapping workflows and scoping operational or automation requirements with Product and Engineering.
Skilled in project management, structuring goals, milestones, and reporting across multiple stakeholders.
Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, earning trust, creating clarity, and guiding teams through change.
Focused on customer experience, balancing efficiency with processes that work well for both external and internal stakeholders.
