Head of Business Operations & Strategic Finance
Mux
About Mux
Mux is video for developers. Our mission is to democratize video by solving the hard problems developers face when building video: video encoding and streaming (Mux Video), video monitoring (Mux Data), and more. Video is a huge part of people’s lives, and we want to help make it better.
We’re committed to building a healthy team that welcomes diverse backgrounds and experiences. We want people who care about our mission, are ready to grow, believe in our values (from Be Human to Turn Customers Into Fans), and want to improve the people around them.
You’ll join a tight-knit team with experience at places like Google, YouTube, Twitch, Reddit, Zencoder, Fastly, and more. Our founders previously started (and sold) Zencoder, an early leader in cloud video technology, and authored Video.js, the biggest HTML5 video player on the web. We organize Demuxed, the premiere conference for video engineers in the world.
We’re backed by top investors like Coatue, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, and Y Combinator. You’ll get to work with amazing companies: hundreds of startups, plus Strava, Patreon, Vimeo, Robinhood, PBS, and Equinox. Customers, large and small, love working with us and love our team.
We are building something big together. We’d love to hear from you!
About the Role
We're seeking an exceptional finance and analytics leader who combines the operational instincts of a seasoned business operator with the technical prowess of a technical architect. This role demands someone who can seamlessly navigate between building sophisticated revenue models and implementing AI-powered workflow automation, between leading audit readiness initiatives and optimizing go-to-market performance. You'll be our strategic finance generalist, equally comfortable presenting investment frameworks to the board, debugging data infrastructure, and driving experimentation that improves pricing and packaging.
This isn't a traditional finance role. We need a rare combination of early-stage operational scrappiness with late-stage financial discipline. You'll own end-to-end financial planning while leading cross-functional revenue optimization initiatives that directly impact our growth trajectory. The ideal candidate brings the analytical rigor of our data-driven culture with the communication skills and business acumen to influence executive leadership across all functions. We're looking for someone who's equally energized by building three-statement models and designing A/B testing frameworks, has operational instincts to balance analytical rigor with speed of execution, and thrives in environments where finance, analytics, and operations intersect to drive measurable business outcomes.
What You'll Do
Strategic Finance & Revenue Operations
Own multi-year financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support strategic initiatives and capital allocation decisions
Lead pricing optimization and packaging initiatives that drive material revenue impact
Build predictive models for sales forecasting, customer acquisition, and revenue recognition across subscription and usage-based models
Develop investment frameworks for evaluating M&A opportunities, partnerships, and growth initiatives
Go-to-Market Analytics & Performance
Design and implement experimentation frameworks to optimize conversion rates, ARPU, and customer retention metrics
Create multi-touch attribution models and ROI measurement systems for marketing spend optimization
Own revenue forecasting processes and KPI reporting that provide actionable insights to revenue leadership
Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success teams to drive data-driven decision making
Cross-Functional Business Operations
Lead high-impact projects spanning GTM, product, and operations—from deal desk optimization to partnership integration
Drive operational improvements through process automation and AI tool implementation across operations and revenue functions
Provide analytical support and accountability frameworks for functional leaders on strategic initiatives
Facilitate executive meeting cadences and OKR processes to drive cross-functional alignment
Financial Operations & Infrastructure
Oversee comprehensive financial performance analysis including variance analysis, cohort analysis, and cost optimization
Ensure audit readiness through robust financial controls, processes, and regulatory compliance
Build and maintain data infrastructure, BI environments, and executive dashboards for real-time business monitoring
Lead headcount planning and budget forecasting with integration across all business functions
Team Leadership & Development
Build and lead a high-performing team spanning business operations, analytics, accounting, and revenue operations
Foster a culture of analytical rigor balanced with operational pragmatism and collaborative impact
Develop team capabilities across modern data stack, financial modeling, and cross-functional partnership
Drive influence without authority across diverse stakeholders and functional areas
Who You Are
8-12 years total finance/analytics experience with progression through: early career foundation in investment banking, private equity, or management consulting; 4+ years in Strategic Finance or FP&A at high-growth B2B SaaS companies; and 2+ years in Business Operations or Revenue Operations with direct exposure to pricing, GTM strategy, deal desk, or growth experimentation
5+ years of people management experience with proven ability to scale teams who drive results through influence
Deep experience with both subscription and usage-based SaaS revenue models and track record of leading strategic initiatives with measurable impact (e.g. pricing strategy, cost optimization, etc.)
Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Excel/Sheets modeling, data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker), modern data stack (Databricks, Fivetran), revenue tools (Salesforce, marketing automation) and modern AI/ML platforms
Hands-on experience with process automation and ability to evaluate and deploy AI solutions to improve team workflows and efficiency
Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to influence and partner effectively with C-level executives and cross-functional leadership
Balance of early-stage scrappiness with late-stage operational discipline and cultural alignment focused on collaboration and customer impact over traditional finance mindset
Bonus
Experience building analytics infrastructure, predictive models, attribution systems, or experimentation frameworks
Experience with deal desk operations, contract optimization, revenue recognition complexities, and advanced revenue analytics including multi-touch attribution and cohort analysis
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related quantitative field
If you don't have all of these requirements but think your experience could be a great fit, that's okay! Please apply and we can talk about what's most needed in the role.
