Legal Operations Manager
Patreon is the best place for creators to build exclusive content and community for their fans. We enable creators (podcasters, writers, musicians, illustrators, etc) to connect with their fans directly and make money from their creative work. Creators can sell one-off items from their own shops or offer recurring monthly memberships with exclusive access to their work.
There are over 250,000 active creators earning on Patreon and over 10 million members. Our goal has always been to help creators achieve financial freedom doing what they love - and we're leaders in the space, with over $3.5 billion earned by creators on our platform. We’re continuing to invest heavily in building the most talented team in the Creator Economy and are looking for a Legal Operations Manager to support our mission and build out our legal operations function and ensure we can scale quickly and efficiently.
This role is available to those wishing to work in our San Francisco office on a hybrid work model or those wishing to be remote in the United States and open to periodic travel to the SF office.
What you will do:
Contract Management (65%)
Own our contract lifecycle management systems and processes (in Ironclad), including ensuring teams are supported with the templates they need, assigning inbound contracts to reviewers efficiently, and organizing our contracts repository effectively.
Negotiate and review certain legal agreements autonomously (e.g. NDAs, Independent Contractor Agreements and templatized Go-To-Market agreements).
Collaborate with the Commercial Legal and Finance Operations team to develop and optimize contracting workflows in Zip and Ironclad to ensure a seamless contracting experience.
Maintain and update template agreements and playbooks with input from the Commercial Legal team.
Lead efforts to streamline processes and enhance automation using questionnaire-based contract drafting and machine learning for data extraction.
Support users of Ironclad and identify and resolve any user errors promptly.
Partner with Commercial Legal team to develop and host internal stakeholder trainings.
Team Operations (25%)
Maintain our legal ticket tracking in ZenDesk and Slack, and innovate on new ways to make it more efficient, including providing more useful analytics and metrics, as well as educating and advocating for its use by the legal team and others.
Engage in knowledge management by facilitating internal knowledge hubs (in Notion), creating standard operating procedures and preventing knowledge loss.
Vet and leverage legal software to automate time-consuming and repetitive tasks and to increase accuracy in data collection.
Identify opportunities for our team's legal education, training, seminars, memberships, or affiliations.
Support with onboarding of new team members.
Spend Management (10%)
Simplify legal billing and make sure bills get paid on time.
Work closely with our Finance and Accounting teams and other stakeholders to manage legal accrual processes, and identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost reduction in our outside counsel spend.
Skills and experience you possess:
You have 5+ years of relevant legal operations experience, especially at high growth tech companies.
You are meticulous and highly organized and able to navigate complex contracts while balancing broader context and strategy.
You have a resilient nature, are curious, and are open to learning new things.
You crave feedback, both positive and constructive.
You are effective in building trust with all stakeholders, and are able to influence other teams to adopt new systems that create cross functional efficiencies.
You are a proactive self-starter who communicates often with our team, assesses and anticipates the technology and processes we might need, and drives projects to completion.
You have the ability to initiate and manage complex projects across multiple teams and stakeholders while keeping your good humor intact.
You are comfortable collecting and analyzing business intelligence data for important metrics to make more strategic decisions.
You have experience evaluating and negotiating with multiple new technologies and tooling vendors that help drive efficiencies across a legal team.
You're comfortable with iterative process implementation, and adaptable to changes in deal structures and business requirements.
You're familiar with some or all of these technologies: Slack, Ironclad, ContractWorks, Atlassian/Jira/Zendesk, Zoom, or, if not, you are comfortable learning about these and other new technologies, and can train others how to use them.

Projects you may work on:
Enhancing and creating new workflows in Ironclad, our contract management system to ensure it is able to scale through high growth.
Establishing and implementing tracking mechanisms for deal cycle times and other pertinent metrics, as well as analyzing resulting data trends to derive insights for process improvements.
Improve our current team triage and ticketing system.
Develop training materials and resources for internal stakeholders.
