About the role
As our Product & Privacy Counsel, you’ll have a broad range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on privacy compliance and product development initiatives. You will also provide support and advice to the commercial legal team, who are involved in complex negotiations with customers and product related vendors. You will partner with our product team to develop new products and features while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also be the lead in managing our privacy program. As we are a small legal department you will report to the General Counsel, and your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact. This role will be based in our office in San Francisco.
What you'll do
- Become a subject-matter expert in the Persona products building close connections with the product team.
- Provide guidance to product teams related to new and existing products and features.
- Manage privacy-related compliance, including managing our privacy program and assessing privacy regulations in various jurisdictions.
- Advise on privacy matters relating to complex vendor agreements affecting the company’s products.
- Support revenue deals by collaborating with our commercial legal team to provide clear and concise counsel on privacy issues for customer deals, including DPAs and questionnaires.
- Support various privacy matters including supporting data mapping, privacy by design, impact assessments, vendor data protection, privacy notices and policies, subject access requests, and incident response.
- Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, consumer protection, and privacy laws and regulations to ensure an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice.
What you'll bring to Persona
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, either in-house or at a firm
- A JD and active membership in at least one state bar
- Familiarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
- Strong knowledge of state, federal and international privacy laws and regulatory frameworks including several of the following: CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, BIPA, GLBA & FCRA
- Experience with maintaining and creating privacy policies, impact assessments and related privacy program documents
- Excellent communication skills
- Quick learner with good judgment
- Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for innovative product and business teams
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage projects effectively
- Sound and practical business judgment, intellectual creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
Compensation & Equity
For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $150,000 - $180,000. Base salaries are just one component of the total compensation package and are determined by a number of factors such as years of experience, expertise, qualifications and more. In addition to base salary, we offer competitive equity packages that play a big part in recognizing you for the huge impact you will have on helping us achieve our mission. Please note, the salary range is a guideline that is subject to change without notice.
