You'll work closely with our Product, Engineering, and AI teams to ensure Replit's platform meets evolving privacy regulations and product legal requirements as we scale our AI-powered development environment to millions of users worldwide.
What You'll Do
Lead Product Legal Support: Serve as the primary legal counsel for our Product and Engineering teams, providing proactive guidance on product development, feature launches, AI implementations, and user experience flows from concept to deployment
Build Privacy-by-Design: Partner with Engineering and Product teams to implement privacy-by-design principles across Replit's platform, ensuring data protection and user privacy are built into every feature and AI capability we develop
Navigate AI Regulations: Stay ahead of emerging AI regulations and data privacy laws, developing frameworks and processes to ensure Replit's AI Agent, code generation tools, and collaborative features comply with evolving legal requirements
Scale Privacy Program: Develop, implement, and scale comprehensive privacy compliance processes for domestic and international regulations (GDPR, CCPA, emerging AI laws), creating monitoring and assessment frameworks that grow with our platform
Terms & Policies: Draft, review, and continuously update user-facing legal documents including Terms of Service, Privacy Policies, AI usage policies, and other product-related legal documentation
Cross-Border Compliance: Ensure Replit's global platform complies with international privacy and data protection requirements as we expand our user base across different jurisdictions
Data Governance: Work with Security and Engineering teams to establish robust data governance frameworks for user code, AI training data, and personal information across our collaborative development environment
Strategic Risk Assessment: Identify and assess legal and privacy risks in new product initiatives, AI model deployments, and platform integrations, providing practical solutions that enable innovation while managing risk
You Might Be a Good Fit If You Have
Legal Foundation: JD from an accredited law school with active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
Relevant Experience: 5-7 years of combined legal experience, preferably including both law firm and in-house experience, with a focus on privacy law and product counseling
Privacy Expertise: Deep understanding of privacy and data protection laws including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and emerging AI regulations, with experience implementing compliance programs at technology companies
Product-Minded Approach: Strong experience supporting product development teams, reviewing user flows, and translating complex legal requirements into actionable guidance for engineers and product managers
AI/Tech Savvy: Understanding of AI systems, machine learning, and software development processes, with appreciation for the unique legal challenges of AI-powered platforms and developer tools
Startup DNA: Thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments where you'll build processes from scratch and adapt quickly to evolving regulatory landscapes
Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, from individual contributors to executive leadership
Business Judgment: Strong business acumen with ability to balance legal risk against product innovation and user experience, always looking for solutions that enable rather than block progress
Bonus Points If You Have
Developer Tools Experience: Previous experience at companies serving developers, including platforms, APIs, code repositories, or development environments
AI/ML Legal Experience: Hands-on experience with AI governance, machine learning compliance, or data usage in AI training and deployment contexts
International Privacy: Experience navigating cross-border data transfers and international privacy compliance, particularly for user-generated content and collaborative platforms
