About the role
We are looking for a litigator excited to join a fast-growing tech startup who is looking to handle active litigation and disputes matters while building scalable litigation processes. You understand that dispute resolution is a craft, that no two disputes are the same, and that storytelling is paramount. You should enjoy drafting persuasive and occasionally humorous dispute correspondence. You love a good fact-gathering mission and find fun digging up the best facts to tell a compelling story. You have a passion for advancing and protecting strategic business priorities through active and pre-dispute methods, including fact investigations, litigation, and litigation risk management.
What you will need
You should enjoy rolling up your sleeves to manage SaaS-related customer and vendor legal disputes and litigation. You should also have a background in, or want to expand into, the world of employment litigation. You have experience efficiently managing document and written discovery. When litigation arises, you exercise careful judgment to guide the business towards an appropriate legal strategy. You will work closely with our legal and business teams and outside counsel to develop successful dispute strategies that advocate on issues core to Rippling’s business. You love working in a fast-paced environment, take ownership over initiatives, have excellent analytical and communication skills, and fundamentally believe that lawyering need not be boring.
What you will do
- Advise the business on litigation, investigations, and incident management
- Manage commercial and employment litigation and pre-litigation disputes, proactively managing matters and advising business stakeholders through all phases from pre-dispute through trial and appeal
- Support the development and implementation of internal systems for managing litigation risk and active disputes
- Alongside the AGC Litigation, serve as the Legal escalation point for our product, sales, account management, and legal teams when disputes arise
- Help advance the company’s legal and compliance dispute policies and processes, including around subpoena response, document retention, and other e-discovery matters
What you will need
- 4+ years of litigation experience, with some experience in-house a plus
- Strong written advocacy skills, both formal and informal
- Demonstrated problem solver with quick and nimble thinking
- Experience leading litigation activities across the full lifecycle and across various forums and regions
- Experience with employment litigation a plus
- Clear communicator with the ability to break down complex requirements into easy-to-understand and practical advice
- Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting and hard-working)
- Sense of humor!
- JD or otherwise authorized to practice law
- Must be fluent in English, fluency in other languages is a plus
