Sierra Space’s Orbital Systems and Services (OSS) division focuses on the design, build, and operations of small satellites in support of commercial services and national security space and offers two work locations: Louisville, Colorado and Centennial, Colorado.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a Mission Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools.

As a cross-functional engineer, you oversee system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

  • Create solutions to complex problems and integrate disparate systems and concepts.

  • Research and analyze alternative technologies, Lead trade studies.

  • Author technical and engineering memos to document decisions and solutions as required.

  • Support program efforts to interpret customer requirements and decompose them into hardware, software and system requirements and specifications.

  • Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of design and development activities.

  • Define interfaces and develop Interface Control Documents (ICD).

  • Create architecture diagrams.

  • Develop test plans, test cases, and test procedures including execution scripts.

  • Coordinate and execute various test events such as development, risk reduction, requirement verification and other system functional/performance testing utilizing Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop test platform configurations, as well as flight hardware/software configuration.

  • Participate in Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) and other formal and informal engineering discussions with teammates, customers, and external stakeholders.

  • Brief customers and internal leadership on technical progress, risks, and alternative courses of action.

  • Prepare material for, and conduct periodic design reviews or major technical reviews, including design and test/launch readiness reviews.

  • Support the creation of, and adherence to, process controls, configuration management requirements, and peer review processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of technical products.

  • Provide inputs to team status, including schedule, budget and earned value.

  • Metrics definition, tracking and status reporting for the position’s areas of responsibility.

  • Refine and update appropriate sections of the program’s integrated master schedule.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor of Science or master's degree in aerospace engineering or related discipline and typically 2(two) or more years of relevant experience; higher education by substitute for experience.

  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.

  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.

  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles.

Preferred:

  • Strongly prefer experience in modeling, simulation and analysis experience related to spacecraft mission analysis.

  • Strongly prefer experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK) or equivalent analysis tools that support orbit integration/propagation, payload sensor modeling, and access metric assessment.

  • Strongly prefer experience in CONOPS development for spacecraft or space systems.

  • Domain expertise in one, or more of the following areas: Spacecraft Structures, Thermal Control Subsystems, Electrical Power Systems, Propulsion, Guidance, Navigation, and Control, Avionics, Communication.

  • Knowledge of various mission analysis techniques and software tools.

  • Experience or certification in INCOSE standards.

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.

  • Knowledge in space vehicle mission planning, command and control, and operations.

  • Understanding of establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements.

  • Familiarity with Matlab, DOORS, Cameo.

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $91,154.71 - $125,337.72. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.
