Position Overview
We’re looking for an experienced assistant controller to build out the accounting function as a hands-on leader and a strategic partner to our finance team and leadership. This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact role as the first accounting hire at a fast-growing startup. The ideal candidate must be willing to roll up their sleeves to own day-to-day accounting operations and proactively chart the path for our financial processes and systems to scale with the business.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger. Process vendor bills, prepare invoices, and review expenses (reimbursements, credit cards, etc.)
- Administer QuickBooks and optimize accounting systems setup
- Build policies and procedures to ensure compliance and establish strong internal controls
- Coordinate with and guide external tax and technical accounting advisors as needed. Lead audit preparation
- Prepare financial statements and assist with quarterly investor updates
- Support Finance and leadership with ad hoc analysis and build a high-performing accounting team as we scale
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally a mix of Big 4 and in-house at a high-growth startup. Familiarity with audit processes preferred
- Willingness and ability to be a hands-on individual contributor to start
- Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
