SOFTWARE ENGINEER (FLIGHT RELIABILITY)
As a Flight Reliability Software Engineer at SpaceX you will shape user-centric products that are critical to the readiness and execution of our space launches. You will work closely with other SpaceX engineers to better understand their needs in order to create applications that anticipate and solve important problems they face. Your work will have a significant impact on the productivity of the engineering community at SpaceX and directly support our ability to launch orbital rockets frequently, safely and reliably. You will have full ownership of challenging problems, working with a team of enthusiastic engineers with diverse perspectives to design and produce solutions that enable SpaceX to move towards our goals at a rapid pace. The success of the missions at SpaceX depends on the software that you and your team produce.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop highly reliable software solutions that are used across SpaceX
- Develop well-architected, responsive, and performant web-based applications
- Own all aspects of software engineering and product development
- Deep dive into your users’ problems to find and create efficient solutions
- Understand and implement technologies across the full stack
- Deliver expert level JavaScript, HTML, and CSS code for modern browsers
- Interface with other engineers to plan and organize the development of our products
- Influence how and what we build with demonstrated technical expertise
- Execute user research and requirements gathering for new and existing products
- Manage the release life cycle and feature roadmap of our products
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline and 2+ years of professional software development experience; OR 3+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degree
- Professional experience in developing software products with frontend or user experience focus
- Development experience in Python and JavaScript
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Programming experience in Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar object-oriented language
- 4+ years of rigorous experience building single page web applications
- Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies
- Understanding of user experience design principals and ability to contribute in design sessions
- Front-end experience in React, or similar JavaScript framework
- Expertise in designing software systems
- Deep understanding of version control, testing, continuous integration, build, deployment and monitoring
- Expertise in profiling and improving application performance
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with data exploration tools like Grafana and Jupyter Notebooks
- Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation
- Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- You may be asked to work extended hours/weekends dependent on launch cadence
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Software Engineer/Level I: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year
Software Engineer/Level II: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation & will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.
