SR. MANAGER, SUPPLY CHAIN ENGINEERING

SpaceX demands a new type of supply chain. We require our suppliers to provide premium quality with rapidly evolving designs at increasingly ambitious volumes. We are actively looking for candidates who possess comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools and have unrelenting motivation to enable suppliers/supply chain for success. This position requires a combination of proven leadership and technical capabilities.

The Senior Manager of Supply Chain Engineering at SpaceX is responsible for defining and implementing reliability policies and strategies to ensure mission success and allow SpaceX to scale efficiently. The incumbent will make strategic decisions that impact the department and have broad influence across organizations within SpaceX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Starlink team of Supplier Development Engineers whose scope spans across PCB, PCBA, mechanicals, electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, packaging, harnessing, and other commodities needed to deliver Starlink hardware
  • Build and maintain supplier capability analyses, technologies, and their ability to successfully execute manufacturing requirements; manage Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), rate, and reliability campaigns
  • Ensure a standardized qualification approach to new vendors, new processes and technologies, process changes, and ongoing reliability testing
  • Manage supplier improvement programs, including providing analysis and corrective actions for Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with strategic suppliers, Supplier Corrective Actions Reports (SCARs), and Quality Management System (QMS) oversight as needed
  • Oversee the Containment program associated with non-conforming product from vendors, including identification of product locations, inspections, rework, making supply and operational risk assessments as appropriate, establishing clean points, and initiating charge-backs
  • Actively manage the team by providing clear direction that aligns with strategy and priorities of the company
  • Hire, develop, and retain top talent to meet current and future business needs; manager poor performance as appropriate

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
  • 7+ years in quality, reliability, supply chain or engineering role
  • 2+ years in a formal management role with direct reports

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Broad knowledge of managing and executing processes and projects within assigned disciplines along with solid understanding of other areas of the Supply Chain department and SpaceX
  • Passion for making systems reliable, smarter, better, faster and cheaper and paranoid about finding reliability risks
  • Expert level knowledge in one or more commodities within the teams’ scope (e.g., machined parts, fabricated components, PCB, PCBA, silicon, packaging, electromechanical assemblies)
  • Knowledge of supplier quality processes (Production Part Approval Process, Advanced Product Quality Planning, First Article Inspection Reports, etc.)
  • Experience with quality systems (ISO 9000/TS/AS9100)
  • Disciplined approach to problem solving
  • Knowledge of Lean concepts
  • Experience with sharing information and influencing others (strong written and verbal communication skills, able to liaise cross functionally, internally and externally)
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and methods (Minitab, design of experiments, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Pareto analysis, root cause and corrective action experience. Experience performing PFMEAs
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work long hours, nights, and weekends as required
  • Must be able to travel for business needs - up to 50% as required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Supply Chain Engineer/Sr. Manager: $175,000.00 - $230,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
